Savings Anyone?
Tonight, someone asked me where he could submit suggestions for how Ada County could reduce the budget by saving money. All such suggestions are gratefully welcomed. Please feel free to post them on this blog. Thank you!

How about if we consolidate City police departments and the Sheriff. We are after all an urban county. It would certainly save city residents some.
Eric is correct. Consolidation of services is the best way to save money. It allows you to keep the same or better level of service while reducing overhead.
Services to look at:
Police/sheriff
Libraries
EMS
Eric and Clancy - Generally speaking, I support - and always have been supportive of - finding savings through the consolidation of services. So what's the problem? Well, the Devil is in the details. For example, there are six different fire departments/districts in Ada County, alone. The Whitney Fire District contracts with the Boise City Fire Department for the provision of services. This could be viewed as a partial consolidation and big step in the right direction.
We at Ada County are also working to try to create as much consistency as feasible in other areas, such as between city and county zoning ordinances.
